Location, location, location

I don't think we are in Kansas, Toto.

It looks more like my old basic training stomping ground, Ft. Jackson, SC. When I left here almost seven years ago, I swore I would never come back here again. Well, the army said differently when they said get your butt down there and change your MOS for the reserves. My welcome here was not much better than the first time, either. Manage to get here in less than three hours. Great. Then it starts raining while I am getting my room assignment... hard. As in almost white out hard. As in a storm off the edge of a hurricane hard. As in the ten minutes that it took me to get out to the one road I needed to get on to get to my room, one part of the road had flooded. And I didn't realize that it was a flood puddle, not the road flattening out with just a film of rain running to the side. And I didn't realize this detail until I hit the water and saw the wall of water that came up OVER my car when I hit it. And then proceded to stall in the middle of it with water halfway up my door - with power windows... no car on, no window down to climb out. And then water proceded to start coming in through the door jamb. So the inside of my car was flooding too. And I was trapped inside. Until some soldier came up behind me in his bare feet and pushed my car out... by himself. But the main damage was done. My engine sucked up water big time. It is totaled. But I was able to rescue my uniforms and clothes and laptop and other stuff from the car and continue on to duty. Just stuck in the room if my roommate does not want to chauffer me around places.

But phase one of my school is complete. I have achieved course standards with one failure and passing retest and a 95.6 % avg. If I had not failed that one test, I probably would have been able to get exceeded course standards. Oh well, phase two is one day away, maybe the second time around will be my charm. On to car hunting, preparing for phase two, enjoying my one day off in an entire month - wow, talk about sleep in!!!! - and just trying to keep my life happy and achieve my goals all around. Wish me luck!
