I have been watching the Fort Stewart Soldiers busting their butts for the last few months, preparing for CCMRF, getting tased so they can carry a taser into a hostile area and be able to protect themselves, without worrying about causing injury to the local citizens, learning how to handle crowd and traffic control, and all that stuff. They are having to take on a new mission that puts them on US soil worrying about either having to help the local authorities protect the peace and its citizens (instead of being able to just use their wartime training) or protecting US citizens from a terrorist attack... and I am seeing blogs about how the soldiers are going to force their way into people's homes and make themselves comfy! As a vet, as a former spouse of a current active duty soldier, and as a loved one of another soldier, I find most of these blogs offensive to say the least. I still consider myself a soldier at heart, and we do not put on the uniform thinking about how we are going to go kick in some doors and make ourselves at home. People out there get to sit back and talk smack about us now, but when something happens, if we DON'T do this stuff, you will complain that we did nothing, if we DO get out there, you sure the heck won't be refusing our HELP when you need medical attention, you won't be telling us to let the rioters through, its ok, they can vandalize your home because the local police can't handle it alone, you won't tell us to let the hoodlums to steal your tv and stuff or to break into the local stores and steal all their stuff. Get a grip... we are not instituting martial law.
And if you don't like what the military is doing... go put on a damn uniform, make some damn rank, get yourself promoted to General and start influencing policy yourself! Until then... STFU and show the soldiers some respect!
