Happy Birthday to Me!
Yesterday I celebrated my 28th birthday. This year I looked forward to it, but was not all excited as I usually am. I think because this year I resigned myself to the fact that most of my family was going to forget about it. I am not at home right now, so I might have birthday cards sitting in my mailbox (gonna go check here in a little while), but other than that, I was right. My sister was not able to send me birthday wishes on time, but, as usual, she posted them to me on her blog this morning, prefering to post it the morning after than not at all. The love of my life gave me all the wishes he could, made sure the kids did the same, but because of finances, was not able to do anything "real" for me. So no flowers, no presents, no dinner. But, my ex did give me some extra money to pay for gas so we were able to drive up to Savannah to drop off a job application, use my free ice cream for my birthday at Cold Stone Creamery, and enjoy some time sitting in Barnes & Nobel, my favorite book store! While we were there, I also used my Sears card and bought some new clothes (still need some more clothes and shoes, but I got some nice dress pants and jackets) so that I can look like a civilian instead of an off-duty soldier with no wardrobe... and it will look nice for any job interviews that I will hopefully get soon. Wow, I shopped for clothes for myself. We have a miracle. I am going to go shopping for more clothes and shoes soon... did H E Double hockey sticks freeze over? I plan to own more than one pair of dress shoes? I plan to own shoes that are not required and Army issued? What is this world coming to?!

Hmmm...I would disagree that just because he didn't spend money he didn't do anything "real". I guess I know what you mean but it actually sounds like you guys made the best of it and actually had a fairly nice time sans big money. One of my most fun presents for my husband was when we were broke and I was only able to scrape up 14 bucks but turned it into days and days of a treasure hunt.
oh, and, better late than never:
Happy birthday!!
